“Power is Sexy”: Nia Magoulianiti-McGregor on How to Marry a Politician and Survive (Video)

How to Marry a Politician and SurviveNia Magoulianiti-McGregor recently spoke to PolitySA about her new book, How to Marry a Politician and Survive.

Magoulianiti-McGregor said she finds the love-hate relationship between politicians and citizens very fascinating. “I was inspired by the craziness of South African politicians and how we relate to them in sometimes such a visceral way.”

Magoulianiti-McGregor describes her book as political satire with a how-to section on catching a powerful man. “There’s something about power that’s sexy,” she says. “Not every woman is in a position where she can go to a fantastic varsity and get a fabulous job. Sometimes she just may need to improve her life by improving the quality of the guy around her.”

Wiseman NkuhluWiseman Nkuhlu, the subject of Wiseman Nkuhlu: a life of purpose by Luvuyo Wotshela, delivered a lecture at the Gordon Institute of Business Science in Sandton recently. Andrei van Wyk covered the event for the The Sandton Chronicle and GIBS shared a video of his speech on YouTube.

The subject of Nkuhlu’s lecture was overcoming adversity to achieve success. This is a subject he is particularly qualified to speak about: in 1976, he was the first black person to become a chartered accountant in South Africa. He spoke about the forces in group cultures that work to propel certain groups to “disproportionate success”: a superiority complex, a feeling of insecurity and the ability to control impulse. He said that he feels he can relate to these.
