Remember Where We Come From, Says For the Fallen Author Mzwakhe Ndlela

For the FallenAll Africans fought apartheid.

This was the central message of the recent Brand South Africa/Sowetan Dialogues on 29 May 2014 in Durban.

Author of For the Fallen: Honouring the Unsung Heroes and Heroines of the Liberation Struggle and a former Umkhonto we Sizwe soldier Mzwakhe Ndlela served on the panel of speakers alongside Stanley Rwandarugali, Musa Mdluli, and Brian Mpono.

The panelists agreed that South Africans should remember the part other African countries played in bringing the apartheid government to its knees. The speakers questioned whether South Africans practised Ubuntu with their fellow Africans.

Ndlela emphasised the importance of remembering our roots:

We should tell the youth and kids about the struggle so that they know where we come from. We should teach them of the struggle history of Africa and make sure they guard our freedom with jealousy.

Our freedom was paid for by many an African, not just South Africans, so we should never undermine our brothers and sisters.
