Justice Malala: “There is Discontent in the Land”

Let Them Eat Cake“Anywhere else in the world a party and a president that went into an election with so many violent protests on their hands would not be as confident as our leaders are about an election victory,” Justice Malala, author of Let Them Eat Cake, writes in a column for The Times.

“There is discontent in the land,” Malala says, but despite this he thinks the ANC will win again. He writes that the party’s leaders must ask themselves: “How long will people continue to swallow a pill – the ANC – that they now consider way too bitter and increasingly impotent?”

President Jacob Zuma has announced that South Africa’s fifth democratic national and provincial elections will be held on May 7 this year.

A large number of the people of South Africa are not waiting for that day to raise their voices, though.

They are already raising their voices in the streets of Sebokeng and Bronkhorstspruit, and Hebron and Mothotlung. They are raising their voices in Eastern Cape, in Mpumalanga, in the Free State and in North West.
